Major Features
The Introduction to each Informix product manual contains a list of major features for that product. Major features for Informix products also appear in release notes.
Informix has implemented the following major new features in Version 9.13 of INFORMIX-ESQL/C:
The ability to have the C preprocessor run prior to the
esql
preprocessor. This ability makes the following functionalities possible:
The ability to declare any valid C syntax inside ESQL/C
BEGIN DECLARE-END DECLARE
sections
The ability to declare
ANSI

C
style function parameters as host variables
Ability to define host variables with
#define
and
typedef
statements defined in either C library header files or in user-created C language header files
Support for user-defined dynamic thread libraries
The following functions:
ifx_cl_card()
Returns the number of elements in a collection
ifx_lo_from_buffer()
Copies bytes from a user-defined buffer into smart large object
ifx_lo_release()
Releases resources associated with a temporary smart large object
ifx_lo_to_buffer()
Copies bytes from smart large object into a user-defined buffer
The
lvarchar
pointer variable, which enables you to insert or select opaque type columns that can be represented in a character string format and which can vary in size from one row in the table to another
