In This Chapter
This chapter describes how to use
SELECT
,
INSERT
,
DELETE
, and
UPDATE
statements to manipulate complex data types. Before you read this chapter, you should be familiar with the material that is covered in Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of this manual. This chapter covers the following topics:
Accessing row-type data
Accessing collection-type data
Accessing data from tables in a table hierarchy
Although the
SQL
syntax remains the same across all Informix products, the form of the statements that you use to manipulate data and the location and formatting of the resulting output depends on the application. The examples in this chapter show the statements and their output as they appear when you use the interactive query language option in DB-Access or the
SQL
Editor.
The type and table examples that appear in this chapter are for demonstration purposes only and do not exist in the
stores7
demonstration database.
