Building a Visionary World

Visionary worlds can be simple or complex, but the fundamental steps you follow to create a world are the same.

To build a Visionary world

    1. Design a storyboard for the world.

Use pencil and paper to design the scenes and layouts you will use in your world and how you will navigate between the scenes. You can also use other tools, such as Microsoft PowerPoint or a Web authoring tool, to create a storyboard with active navigation.

    2. Start Visionary Studio and connect to a database.

    3. Create a new world.

Choose File New to create a new world. A new world with a default scene appears in the Scenes panel.

    4. Insert a data source into the world.

Choose Insert Data Source to create a data source. Use the Query wizard to create the data source and then edit the data source in the Query Editor.

    5. Open the Scene Editor.

In the Scenes panel, double-click the default scene to display the Scene Editor in design mode.

    6. Choose a layout to display your data source.

Choose Insert Layout to display the Layout wizard.

    7. Map the data source to the layout.

Use the Layout wizard to specify how the layout displays the data source.

    8. Refine the appearance of the scene.

Use the Object Inspector, Scene Editor, and Data Element Editor to modify the color, size, and position of the objects in your scene.

    9. Test the world.

Switch to runtime mode to test the data retrieval and navigation of your world.

    10. Save the world.

Choose File Save to give the world a name and save it to a file system or database.

    11. Add more data sources and scenes as the storyboard indicates.

    12. Publish the world.

Choose World Publish World to save your Visionary world as a component file to be viewed with Visionary Viewer.
