Modifying Layouts

 To modify layouts, you can:

Layout properties typically consist of location and width, a radius property for the pie chart layout, and a plot area width and height for charts with axes. You modify the data portion of the layout by selecting the data element or child objects of the data element.

Use the Scene Editor to position, design, and view layouts. Use the Scene Editor and the Object Inspector to modify layout properties. To modify the data portion of the layout, use the Data Element Editor.

For information about how to add primitives, see Chapter 6, "Adding Static Objects to a Scene." For information on how to modify object properties, see Chapter 7, "Modifying Object Properties."

Here is an example of adding an axis to modify a layout. Suppose you want to see both units and sales revenues over a period of time plotted on the same chart. You can create an XY chart and define the x-axis as time, and the initial y-axis as units sold. Then you can add a second y-axis to the layout to show sales revenues.

To add an axis to a XY chart

    1. In the Scenes panel, double-click the chart so that it is displayed in the Scene Editor.

    2. Right-click the chart and select Insert Axis from the popup menu to display the Insert New Axis dialog box.

    3. Select an alignment from the Alignment list box.

    4. Select a scaling option from the Scaling list box.

    5. Click OK.

    The axis is added to the layout in the Scenes panel and appears in the Scene Editor.

    6. Modify axis properties in the Object Inspector, as desired.

Tip: When you modify data elements in a layout, you can use the Axis Selector bar at the top of the Data Element Editor to select the appropriate combination of axes for the data point you want to modify.
