Manipulating Objects

Visionary supports copying, pasting, moving, and deleting objects in the World Manager and in the editor windows. You can also copy the visible portion of a scene in runtime mode.

Copying, Pasting, Moving, and Deleting Objects in Design Mode

You can copy, move, paste, and delete objects that appear in the Scene Editor, Data Element Editor and Query Editor and in the following panels of the World Manager:

Visionary does not support multiple selection of objects in these panels. To select multiple objects in an editor window, drag the mouse to draw a selection rectangle around the objects.

Copying, moving, and pasting objects in the Scenes panel is particularly useful. For example, you can create duplicates of complex layouts to customize one aspect of the layout, and you can change the order in which data element layers that appear in a layout are drawn.

Tip: When you drag an object from one location to another within a world, Visionary moves the object. When you drag an object between worlds, Visionary copies the object.

To copy and paste an object

    1. Right-click the object you want to copy and select Copy from the popup menu.

    2. Right-click the folder or parent object into which you want to paste the copy and select Paste from the popup menu.

To move an object

Drag the object you want to move to the desired location in the tree view.

To delete an object

Right-click the object and select Delete from the popup menu.

When you delete an object, its child objects are also deleted.

Warning: Some objects in tree views have properties that refer to other objects in a scene or world. Although Visionary prevents you from moving an object to a location where a reference is no longer valid, you are allowed to delete an object that refers to other objects, so be aware that this might cause unexpected behavior in your world.

Copying a Scene in Runtime Mode

You can copy the visible part of a scene when you are in runtime mode. The display is copied to the clipboard as a single file in Windows Enhanced Metafile format. You can then paste it into a word processing or graphics program as an image.

To copy a scene in runtime mode

    1. Pan and zoom to the part of the scene you want to copy.

    2. Choose Edit Copy to copy the image to the clipboard.
