Controlling Database Access

A user name and password must be passed to the database server when Visionary Viewer connects to the database. You can include the user name and password when you publish your world, or you can prompt the user to provide a user name and password. If you prompt the user, the user name and password must be known to the database server. For example, if the database server is running in a UNIX environment, the user name must be in the /etc/passwd file.

To define a database server on Windows NT or Windows 95, use the Informix Setnet32 utility provided with the Informix Client Software Developer's Kit. For more information on the Setnet32 utility, see Informix Client Products Installation Guide for Microsoft Windows Environments.

Tip: The user name and password defined in Setnet32 are used to look up the list of databases in the database system tables on the server. The user name and password used to connect to the database in Visionary are used for access to tables used by the Visionary world.
