Installing in Console Mode

The default installation is console mode. Console mode is a text screen interface.

When installing in console mode, especially over a network, you might have to wait a few moments for files to uncompress before installation begins.

To install in console mode
  1. Log in as the root user.
  2. Run the installation command for the products you want to install from the specific product directory.
    • To install all the components of Dynamic Server, run the ids_install command from the root level of the installation media.
    • To install the server only, run the installserver command from the SERVER directory.
    • To install the Client SDK only, run the installclientsdk command from the CSDK/UNIX directory.
    • To install IConnect only, run the installconn command from the ICONNECT/UNIX directory.

The installation program opens in console mode.

  3. Enter 1 to continue.

    The Software License Agreement appears.

  4. Read the license agreement, accept the terms and enter 1 to continue.
  5. Accept the default installation directory or choose a different directory and enter 1 to continue.
  6. Select the products that you want to install, if that is an option.

If you ran the ids_install command, IBM Informix Dynamic Server, JDBC, and Client SDK are selected by default. IConnect is deselected by default. (Do not install CSDK and IConnect together.)

Entering the number that corresponds to the appropriate product will select the product if it is not selected and deselect the product if it is already selected.

Enter 1 to continue to the next step.

  7. Select Typical for the suggested setup, or select the Custom installation to select the components you want to install and other possible options.
  8. Choose whether to enable role separation.

If you enter Yes, you are prompted for the role separation group values. For more information about role separation, see Configuring Role Separation (Optional).

  9. Enter 1 to continue.
  10. Choose whether to create a demonstration database.

The demo database is for demonstration purposes only. It is not configured for a production environment.

  11. Enter 3 to finish the installation.

If you chose to install other IBM Informix products, the install prompts you for additional information.

A final screen of the installation program tells you what to do after the installation is complete to start Dynamic Server. For more information about this screen, see Post-Installation Tasks.
