Solving Installer Failures

The following problems might occur when you run the installer.

• Problem. When you attempt an installation, the following message appears:

  Please rerun this installation procedure as root. 

  Solution. Make sure that you are logged in as user root.

• Problem. When you run the installation command, the following message appears:

  chown filename: Not owner. 

  Solution. Remove $INFORMIXDIR and all its files. Then follow the procedures in Creating group informix and user informix and perform all subsequent steps.

• Problem. When you run the installation command, the bundled JRE is not found.

  Solution. Ensure that a valid JRE, Version 1.3.2 or higher, is present on your computer and ensure that the installation script can find it by performing one of the following actions:

  • Add it to the $PATH.
  • Set $JAVAHOME.
  • Provide the argument -is:javahome directory_where_JRE_is_installed, for example:

    ./ids_install -is:javahome directory_where_JRE_is_installed 

  • Let the installation script search for it if the JRE is in a standard location.
  • Directly invoke the installer Java class with the command:

    java -cp IIF.jar run
