Example Storyboard

Suppose you have been asked to create an application for the buying department of ACME, a sporting goods distributor. They want to track the following information:

The application will help the buying department plan production according to current sales trends.

Here is an example of a simple storyboard for the sample project, ACME World. This is only one way to approach the project. Because Visionary is a versatile application, you could use Visionary features in other ways to present the same information.

In this example, all of the data you need is in the acme database. You need data from two tables:

You decide to create the following scenes:

Contains two wormholes showing Scenes 2 and 3, and a selection tool to choose a year to display in Scene 2.

Contains a pie chart showing the breakdown of total ACME revenues by customer for a particular year. The user specifies the year in Scene 1. The wormhole passes the year as a scene parameter to create Scene 2.

Contains an XY chart to display units sold to each customer on a month-to-month basis. The x-axis displays the month; the y-axis displays the units sold. The XY chart uses layers to display a curve for each customer.

Figure 2-13 shows an example of a paper storyboard for ACME World.

Now that you have created a storyboard, you can proceed to creating a Visionary world. For information about the building blocks of a Visionary world and the basic steps of creating a simple world, see Chapter 1, "Getting Started with Visionary."
