Decreasing Setup Time Through an Alternate Backup Method

If you are using ontape to backup and restore data, you can improve the speed of HDR setup by setting the TAPEDEV configuration parameter to the STDIO value, instead of backing up a file to a device. TAPEDEV uses STDIO as a special value for configuring standard I/O streams.

Important:
When you use the STDIO value, ontape does not operate the same way it does when you backup to a device.
