The Optical Subsystem API

The application programming interface (API) between the Optical Subsystem and the optical-storage subsystem consists of the following layers:

The optical-storage subsystem vendor provides the external layer of the interface in the form of a shared library that is linked to the Optical Subsystem. For information on how to install the vendor library and how to link it with the Optical Subsystem, see Installation and Initial Configuration.

Figure 3 illustrates the relationships between the Optical Subsystem, the API, and the optical-storage subsystem.

Figure 3. The Optical Subsystem, API, Staging-Area Blobspace, Memory Cache, and the Optical-Storage Subsystem Relationship
begin figure description - The figure demonstrates data flow between the internal and external layers of the API. The client is at one end of the data-flow path, and the Optical-storage subsystem is at the other end of the path. From the client, data flows into the Optical Subsystem, then on to the Internal API migration functions. Data then flows to the External API optical-storage subsystem functions library, and then on to the Optical-storage subsystem. The process depicted in this illustration is described in the sections that follow. - end figure description
