Adding Resources

Resources are objects that can be shared among scenes in a world and include the following types:

Visionary provides defaults for color sequence (ColorSeq1) and for viewer class (Anonymous). You can see these defaults by expanding the resource folders in the Resources panel of the World Manager, as shown in Figure 11-1.

You can create and store resources for use in more than one scene in a world. When you create a resource, it is inserted into the Resources panel, in the appropriate world folder. For more detailed information about colormaps, color sequences, stock images, and viewer classes, refer to the on-line help.

Basic Steps

The basic steps that you follow to add a resource to your world are:

    1. Insert the resource into the world.

    2. Select the type of resource you want to add in the Insert Resource dialog box.

After you select the resource and click OK, a dialog box specific to the resource you selected appears.

    3. Complete the dialog box for the particular resource.

After you add a resource to your world, you can use the resource in a property expression when you modify object properties in the Object Inspector. For more information about property expressions, see Chapter 7, "Modifying Object Properties."

Example

When you add a stock image, you can add it directly to the scene and also to the Resources panel, or you can add it solely to the Resources panel. The following example adds the stock image solely to the Resources panel.

To add a stock image to a world

    1. Open the world.

    Choose File Open.

    2. Choose Insert Resource.

    3. In the Insert Resource dialog box, select StockImage from the Resource type list box and click OK, as shown in Figure 11-2.

    4. In the Insert Stock Image dialog box, navigate to the directory on your client computer that contains the image file, select the image file, and click Open. See Figure 11-3.

The stock image is added to Stock Images folder of the Resources panel of the world.

Important: If you want to insert the stock image directly into the scene so that it appears in the Scene Editor, open the scene and place the Scene Editor in design mode. Then, when you insert the stock image, Visionary automatically inserts a Picture object into the scene and maps the stock image resource to the Picture object.
The following procedure applies only if you inserted the stock image directly into the scene. For instructions on how to manually map a stock image to a Picture object, refer to the on-line help.

To see how the stock image is mapped to the picture

    1. Double-click the scene containing the stock image to display the Scene Editor.

    2. Select the Picture object from the Object Inspector list box.

    3. Look at ImageSource property in the Object Inspector.

    4. Select the Picture object in the Object Inspector.

If you prefer to use a different stock image, you can change the name contained in the quotation marks to the name of any stock image in the same world.

For detailed instructions on how to add a colormap, color sequence, or viewer class, refer to the on-line help.
