Navigating a Published World

After you publish a world, navigational tools such as the Navigation toolbar, event actions, viewpoints list, and scene tabs allow the user to navigate the world using Visionary Viewer.

Using Scene Tabs

Visionary Viewer displays a tab for each scene, which allows users to switch from scene to scene. Scene tabs appear at the bottom of the Visionary Viewer display, as shown in Figure 14-3.

Figure 14-3
Scene Tabs

To switch between scenes, click the tab for the scene you want to jump to.

When you create a world using Visionary Studio, you can set scene properties so that the scene does not appear in Visionary Viewer scene tabs. You might want to do this if scenes require parameters-navigating directly to the scene using a scene tab would not pass the parameter necessary for the scene to display properly.

To prevent scenes from appearing in scene tabs and the viewpoints list

    1. In the Scenes panel, double-click the scene you do not want to appear so that the Scene Editor opens.

    2. Choose View Object Inspector to display the Object Inspector.

    3. In the Object Inspector, select the scene from the list box.

    4. Set the AllowAdhocJumps scene property to False.

After you publish your world, the selected scene does not appear in the scene tabs.

Important: Setting AllowAdhocJumps to False also prevents the selected scene from appearing in the Viewpoints drop-down list in runtime mode and in your published world.

Jumping Between Scenes and Changing Viewpoints

In addition to using scene tabs to jump between scenes, you can also use the Jump To dialog box. The Jump To dialog box gives you access to a list of scenes and viewpoints.

To open the Jump To dialog box

Right-click in the Visionary Viewer display and select Jump To from the popup menu.

You can also open the Jump To dialog box by selecting Viewpoints from the Viewpoints drop-down list on the Visionary Viewer toolbar. Figure 14-4 shows a partial toolbar with the Viewpoints drop-down list displayed.

Changing Viewer Class

You can change viewer class in Visionary Viewer by using the Visionary Runtime Settings dialog box. A viewer class is a type of resource that enables a user to restrict the appearance or behavior of a world based on a viewer's identity.

For more information about viewer classes, see Chapter 11, "Adding Resources and Global Parameters to a World," or Visionary Studio on-line help.

    2. Click the Viewer Class cell and select the class name from the list box.

    3. Click OK.

You can also click the Runtime Settings button in the Visionary Viewer toolbar to display the Runtime Settings dialog box.

Navigating Through Wormholes

There are two ways to enter a wormhole-by using an event action or the Navigation toolbar-but you always use the Navigation toolbar to exit a wormhole.

Entering a Wormhole with an Event Action

If the wormhole has an event action associated with it, you can enter the wormhole by positioning your cursor over the wormhole and performing the action. For example, if the wormhole has been created with the Enter wormhole when clicked with the mouse option, you position your cursor over the wormhole and click once to enter the wormhole and move to the destination scene.

When you move the cursor over a wormhole or other object that has a Click event associated with it, the cursor changes from an arrow to a pointing hand.
