Informix Error -820: No more data to display.
Cause and resolution
No more data to display.
The display of selected rows is finished. With no scrolling display, you cannot show the rows again. Restart the query from the beginning, or enter a new query.
Oninit® Troubleshooting Guidance
Reasons / Common Causes
-820 fires in the interactive tool's non-scrolling display mode once every selected row has already been shown — per the official guidance, without scrolling support, previously displayed rows can't be shown again.
- Reaching the end of the result set in a non-scrolling display, per the official guidance — the expected, normal way this message appears, not a fault.
- An attempt to page/scroll backward in a display mode that doesn't support it.
Solutions / Resolution
- Restart the query from the beginning, per the official guidance, if the earlier rows need to be seen again.
- Enter a new query, per the official guidance, if a different result set is actually needed.
- If scrolling back through results is a frequent need, check whether the interactive tool offers a scrolling display mode as an alternative to the non-scrolling default.
Examples
Restarting the query to see earlier rows again
SELECT * FROM orders WHERE status = 'pending';
-- after reaching the end of the non-scrolling display:
SELECT * FROM orders WHERE status = 'pending';
-- re-run to see the rows again from the start
Diagnostic Checks
- Confirm this is expected — reaching the end of a non-scrolling display is normal behavior, not an error condition requiring investigation.
