Succinctly, No.
The problem is that passwd expects to read from the terminal (/dev/tty),
not standard input, but the SP is being executed (in 7.12) in a server
process which has no controlling terminal (and standard input is unlikely
to be the terminal either). So passwd doesn't stand a chance. If you were
using 5.0x, there is an outside chance that you could do it, but I'd not
like to count on it.
