Querying IDS database from SQL-Server

Greetings. On an old system, my client has been able to run queries against an IDS (11.5) database from his SQL-Server PC. Much of their application is based on this capability. Now, on a new machine, with the nearly identical configuration, the query is failing in an interesting way. To all appearances there was no contact with the Informix server. Had there been a connection error it would have shown up the online.log (error -956). The SQL-Server side proclaims a severe error without a clue of what went south (i.e. no error number). It took a packet-monitoring program plugged into the network to see that the query *is* actually fetching a few rows before the SQL-Server engine terminates the connection. Has anyone ever encountered anything similar to this? We are unable to find any significant configuration differences in onconfig or sqlhosts that would account for this. Perhaps a network difference (sounds most likely) And it is the same SQL-server that previously did work. It occurs to me that I should be posting this on a SQL-Server forum or one on networking. Just I don't know anyone on such a forum or where the best one is. Thanks for any help. -- Jacob S.
Are you sure it's fetching data? Or just negotiating the connection? Make sure CLIENT_LOCALE and DB_LOCALE are properly setup in the SQL environment where you define/use the linked server functionality. Regards. Hello. You can do a simple ODBC connection in external server, and it works? Did you enable OLEDB in your Informix instance? That might be the problem, if you are using it. Try running the oledb creation script against sysmaster, and try again. In case you are still facing that issue, you should contact your support for the external database company. Hope it helps.
