Keyboard Timeout Probs (Escape Sequences)

I am using Informix (OL 4.10 on 3B2) over a network and am having problems with the keyboard when using the special keys that generate escape sequences. The chars in the escape sequences get broken into different packets and by the time the last char gets to Informix, it has already timed out and proccessed the first two as individual chars. Is there an Informix equiv of the curses notimeout() function that will prevent this from happening, or preferably, is there a way to make the timeout longer so that the user's won't have to hit the ESC key twice in order to send an ACCEPT signal to Informix?
