finderr code 406
Posted in 2004
Greetings! I'm running a large report and seem to be getting a 406 error: -406 Memory allocation failed. Something in the current statement required the allocation of memory for data storage, but the memory was not available. Several things can cause this error. For example, your application has a memory leak; you are asking for more resources than the system is configured to allow; or a problem with the UNIX system itself requires rebooting the system. Roll back the current transaction. Look for ways to make this statement simpler or move less data. Also, confer with your UNIX system administrator to solve memory problems or look for ways to make the operating system give this program more virtual memory in which to run. On DOS systems, exit to the operating-system command line, free some disk space, and resubmit your program. I have created a script to check the OS memory at the time of the error. But all seems fine. Are there any parameters I may be able to tune to resolve this problems? I can't determine if it is a main, shared, or virtual memory problem. From my tests however, main and virtual memory seem to be ok. (I used swapinfo and vmstat on HP-UX in the script which ran every 5 minutes and output to a file so I can have trace). Could it be I need to bump up one or two configuration parameters for Informix? Any ideas are appriciated. Joe
