Despite admonitions to do otherwise, I've found that doing a backup with
dbexport is useful in one of our cases.
Our production machine runs Online (nee Turbo). However, the development
box uses SE. We want to be in a position to, if necessary, load the current
data sets onto the development machine and use it as a backup should the
production machine fail. I know of no way that SE can read level-n archives
made by Online.
We do regular Online archives, but in addition, every evening a dbexport is
run and the resulting directory is tarred to tape just in case it has to be
loaded on the SE machine.
