Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Neil Truby on IDS 11.50.FC8W2XB fragmented a 64 million row table round robin over four dbspaces, then ran alter fragment init in dbs1 to restore it, after which the table was empty. He soon reported he had found the cause, without saying what it was, and asked to move on. Others joked about it. The cause was not stated.

IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 11.50.FC8W2XB on Solaris:
I fragmented a table into multiple dbspaces to see how long it would
take. No problems with all this, all 64 million rows fragmented, about
16m into each database:
set pdqpriority 95 ;
alter fragment on table <tablename> init fragment by roundrobin in arcdbs1,arcdbs2,arcdbs3,arcdbs4;
.. took about 20 minutes and moved all 65m rows into 4 new fragments each with
about 16 million rows each, as expected.
Then to put it back as it was:
set pdqpriority 95 ;
alter fragment on table <tablename> init in dbs1;
Took about 22 minutes ... but all the rows are gone!! The table is now
completely empty!
What have I done wrong?
cheers
Neil

Many times the problem "sits" between the chair and the keyboard... I
suppose this was one of those cases? :)
