A before trigger whould work just fine. If you only need the check upon insert of the record you'll be fine. If you need to maintain this relationship (like in a check constraint) after teh initial insert you will need before triggers on the underlying tables (lets call them parents for lack of a better word) of the query as well. Hi, > A before trigger whould work just fine. i can't use REFERENCING with a before trigger so i can't reach the tuple wich should be inserted. And i need this tuple because before it's inserted it needs to match a certain property (=tuple must not be in some other table ) , if not: the insert should be rejected. thx for your help, james
