Which dictionary are you using?
Chambers 20th Century Dictionary (1978 Edition) says:
n. edification, instruction: progress in knowledge or goodness.
I think Cosmo was requesting enlightenment, by us giving him instruction,
so he would progress in knowledge. That's valid use of English.
None of the entries under 'edify' can easily be interpreted as 'praise'.

This is sound advice... The default lock mode is PAGE, and this is seldom
what you want unless your table rows are large enough that you only get one
row per page (or one row extends over several pages).
