RE: Connectivity problem with I-Star

Hello All
Sorry for the alarm about this problem. We rebooted the machines and now =
the connectivity is established. I think maybe it was a problem with =
sockets.
Thanks
Sujit

Subject: Connectivity problem with I-Star
Hello All
I am having a problem connecting to a remote database via I-Star. I have =
2 HP-UX 9.04 boxes.
On Box 1, the following software resides:
The application software under source code control.
Informix 4GL 4.13.UC1
Informix ESQL/C 5.03.UC5
Informix Online 5.03.UC5
Informix I-Star 5.03.UC5
On Box 2, the database instances reside. The following Informix software =
are running here:
Informix Online 5.05.UC4
Informix I-Star 5.05.UC4
I created a dummy client instance on Box 1, and want to access the =
database instances server1, server2, server3, and server4 on Box2. For =
this the sqlhosts file on both ends look like this:
# sqlhosts
client1 olsoctcp Box_1 client1
server1 olsoctcp Box_2 server1
server2 olsoctcp Box_2 server2
server3 olsoctcp Box_2 server3
server4 olsoctcp Box_2 server4
The services file is under NIS and looks like this:
# services
client1 1501/tcp
server1 1502/tcp
server2 1503/tcp
server3 1504/tcp
server4 1505/tcp
I am able to get all the instances up locally on Box_1 and Box_2. I have =
the following sqlexecd processes running:
On Box_1:
/usr/informix/lib/sqlexecd client1 -l /tmp/client1
On Box_2:
/usr/informix/lib/sqlexecd server1 -l /tmp/server1
... and so on for each of the other 3 database instances.
I was able to connect from Box_1:client1 to Box_2:server1 and =
Box_2:server4 the first time, but not to Box_2:server2 and =
Box_2:server3. I noticed that the onconfig files for those had the =
SERVERNUM and DBSERVERNAME at different places (perhaps the earlier DBA =
found it easier to read), so I edited them (I know it should not make a =
difference but I find it easier to read this way) to have them on =
consecutive lines and cycled the instances. But now, after cycling all =
the instances and restarting the sqlexecd's on both boxes, I find I =
cannot connect at all from Box_1:client1 to any database instance on =
Box_2.=20
The /etc/hosts.equiv file contains entries for both Box_1 and Box_2 on =
both boxes. The hosts file is on NIS and both entries are there.
I use dbaccess - Database - Select to connect. I have tried setting =
DBPATH=3D//server1 (or //server2, .., //server4) and also tried issuing =the SQL statement:
database dbname@server1
from dbaccess. The error messages I get are 529 and 123 (isam).
Does anybody have any ideas why? Any suggestions or workarounds? Am I =
doing something wrong? I also tried installing Informix OL and I-Star =
5.05.UC4 on Box_1 and creating the instance client1 under that but I get =
the same errors, so I uninstalled it.
TIA
