Ontape -r
Posted in 1998
Hi.
With Informix 7.13.UC4, Solaris 2.5.1, are you required to
have the same dbspaces prior to doing an ontape -r.
In other words, if you did an oninit -iy, which wipes
all of the dbspaces and establishes rootdbs, and then ontape -r, it should
restore the dbspaces and the data on the tape. The Universal Server manual
says that if you have to do cold restore, you need to verify that you have
the same dbspaces, otherwise if you added a dbspace or deleted dbspace after
doing a level 0 backup, the tape and the dbspaces would be out of sync.
From experience, I've been able to restore after doing an oninit -iy and
doing ontape -r. If what I'm doing is wrong, then how do can I explain
that I've been to restore successfully.
Thanks.
Pete.
