The ISAMBUFS environment variable is used to do this. Set it to the number of buffers you want. The default is 16. I have set it to extremely large values and gotten significant increases in response times. NOTE: You shouldn't set it to such a large value that you cause your engine to start swapping/paging too heavily. Also, think about whether you want to do this on a per-user basis or globally. If you are running your client on the same machine as the database engine, set it prior to running your client process. If your are running your client in a networked environment, set it prior to kicking off the sqlexecd demon. SE is bulit on top of CISAM. ISAMBUFS is documented in the CISAM programmer's manual in appendix E. For sophisticated users of SE, CISAM is a great product to have around. Scott
