Re: OUTER JOIN non-bug

In article <3njfib$6je@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, kmart!jregep@uunet.uu.net says... >As far as OUTER JOIN working the way it is documented, I'd have to say >"Yes. It does work correctly." We converted upwards of 100,000 lines of Informix 3.3 ace reports and informers (with their optional joins) to Informix Online sace and SQL (with the SQL outer join) and had a lot of problems, but they were due to the way outer joins and NULL values worked, not to bugs in the way it worked. I have seen bugs, some of them pretty terrible (like the select statement from hell that upon retrieving one 25-byte row filled the dbspace), but I've not seen any problems with outer joins. I too would like to hear of SQL outer join behavior that is defined vaguely enough to work differently, but correctly, on different DBMS's. -- William Harris (Standard disclaimers) CARS Information Systems http://www.carsinfo.com/~william/ 4000 Executive Park Drive Cincinnati, OH (USA) 45241
