Blob space gets FULL on machine reboot. Any Suggestions?

Fellow Informix'ers, Seen a strange one lately. Our system is set up with a few blob spaces, with one particular space that sees the most amount of traffic (inserts and deletes). Under a normal running system, we have no problems, and our inserts and deleted work fine. But when we reboot the machine, the blob space gets full with 0 pages free. Now inserts into this space come up with errors. After a few inserts though, the epace goes back to its original size. What is going on here? We did a greceful shutdown of Informix before we rebooted the machine, but we get the same results. We are running Informix 5.0 on an IBM RS6000 AIX 3.2.4. We are using raw disks for all the informix chunks, including this blob space. Anybody have an idea of what is going on here? Any and all responses on this matter appreciated.
