Reply:Client/Server Setup
Posted in 1999
Hi,Saleem.
I don't know your environment. I have setup the online 7.3 on SCO unix
release 5.04, the client and the server are all online 7.3.
There are the steps below for our system:
I, Firstly we setup the server.
1, install the informix(the user informix's home is /usr/informix)
2, modify the file $HOME/etc/sqlhosts, add line as below:
dbsvr ontlitcp icbc icbcsvr here "dbsvr" is the online server name, later this will be used when
config the informix system
"ontlitcp" denote that we use the tcp to connect client to server
"icbc" is the host where the online server will be run, here is local
host, this host name must be registered in /etc/hosts.
"icbcsvr" defines the server port name. This is defined in /dev/services
3, register the client host name and its ip address in /etc/hosts, here is
"icbcbak 192.168.45.106"
4, supposed the user cgi in the client host want to access the database
then you must add an entry in the $HOME/.rhosts as below:
"icbcbak + cgi"
maybe you know what this means, later you should test this setup.
5, configure the informix system, I don't list the the configure details,
but when you setup the server name or alias name , you must add the "dbsvr"
described before.
And then the server's configure is finished.
Now we begin to config the client.
1, also install informix
2, add the line "dbsvr ontlitcp icbc icbcsvr" into the $HOME/etc/sqlhosts
the "icbc" and "icbcsvr" must configed in the /etc/hosts and the
/etc/services, these are same as ones configed for the server.
3, the online's configure is same as you do before, but the server name and
the alias name can't be same with "dbsvr".
4, in the $HOME/.profile the environment variable is still as you do before
The client's configure is much more simple than server.
And now you can try it in client as follow:
1, "rlogin icbc -l informix", if you can login the icbc's informix not
providing the passwd, this denote that the file $HOME/.rhosts on the server
is configed well,
2, run dbaccess , and choose the connect, then there will display some
server name, include the "dbsvr".
3, then choose the "dbsvr", and for the user name, passwd, you only press
"ENTER", then "dbsvr connected" will be reported.
Maybe you can use this statement "database ssbdb@dbsvr", here the dbsvr is
the online server name, and the ssbdb is the database name in the "dbsvr".
I don't whether I sait it clearly. You can try it.
Good luck.
