IDS chunk size

Hi all, We would like to know about the chunk size, which we can set for the database stripping. Example is as follows: Database size: 200GB (RAW DISK mode) Stripped Data size: 2GB That means, 100 stripes of 2GB, which will become 200GB Database. In IDS 9.x, the Chunk size has been increased to 4GB from 2GB limitation from IDS 7.x versions. If we increase the chunk size from 2GB to 4GB, will it increase the performance or decrease the performance? If it will increase the performance, kindly let me know at what level it will start decreasing the performance. Apart from this if you guys have any details about the kernal settings for Informix DS 9.4 versions, kindly send the same to me on arvind.patkar@gmail.com/ dbbimail@gmail.com Thanks and regards, Arvind.
Hi Arvind, Whether or not you'll see any performance increase depends on many factors. One of those factors is whether or not you use read-ahead or light scans. In either of those cases, the larger chunks might mean some improvement in I/O response time. Its possible that I/O latency will not be improved, and its likely that there won't be any measurable effect on the overall DBMS performance from this single change. Also note that the size increase for each chunk is not from 2GB to only 4 GB, but to 4 terrabytes (TB). That would mean you could fit your entire database in one chunk.
