Informix vs SQLServer for Web App's

We are currently putting together the systems to support intranet DB-centric applications. It seems to be a given that the server will be a Windows NT Server class machine. We have settled on HAHTsite for Page/Application development, and HAHTsite can get to any DB for which an ODBC driver exists. (We will likely put out some external internet applications in the future, but it is unclear when, what they might look like, and what platform we would support them on.) We were easily swayed by our local Microsoft-bigot to use SQLServer for the database, until the local Informix sales folks got to us. Now we're unsure of which way to go. On the one hand, SQLServer is a known quantity (among our local bigots), and Microsoft is definately in the market for the long-haul. On the other hand, Informix has a long history, their newest products look good, and Informix also runs on UNIX (which might be a plus in the future). So, we're looking for something the internet has no shortage of: OPINIONS! I'll try to monitor this news group, but would prefer that you send your comments directly to me.
