Re: Is Informix v7.23 good?

You mean 7.22 changes the system tables when upgrading from another 7.X version, or were you upgrading from a 5? If you upgraded from another 7.X, could you give me more details on what changes were made? *NO-SPAM*cosmo @ echonyc.com 08/21/97 03:01 PM Please respond to *NO-SPAM*cosmo@echonyc.com To: informix-list @ rmy.emory.edu cc: (bcc: Kate Tomchik/IS/SSC/THD) Subject: Re: Is Informix v7.23 good? > }We want to check with the "real world" users of Informix before > moving to > }v7.23. Rename the current $INFORMIXDIR "ifmx7.12", load the new distribution to a directory called "ifmx7.22". Then create a link which points to whichever version you want to run at the time - this will be what you set $INFORMIXDIR to. This way, if you find any unpleasant surprises with the new version, you can quickly flip back to the old version. Just remember to copy over files like "sqlhosts" to your new ../etc directory. As far as I know you can't locate the "sqlhosts" file anywhere but $INFORMIXDIR/etc (I'd love it if someone would tell me I'm wrong on this one!). BIG CAVEAT: The above generally works, but when I recently loaded 7.22 I noticed that it modifies the system tables, so I'm not sure if you can flip back and forth easily. Best to check with tech support or to hear from someone who has tried it.
