Informix v7.x Problem on Digital Unix: 2GB Limit
Posted in 1996
We have 4GB's of data running on Informix V7.12.UC1 and Digital Unix ( V3.2C).
One of the problem we discovered when we tried to transfer our data to a new
DSS Server ( same box and OS ), is the size of data that Informix can support.
The Informix Onunload utility to tape on Digital Unix is NOT working so we create
a 4GB Unix file system, and successfully created a 3GB file to this UFS.
However, we still CAN'T onunload a 4GB's of data .
We found out that lseek() is hard-coded
to the Informix utility and can only support up to 2GB's.
We talked to DEC Support and they informed
us that lseek() could support up to 128GB's.
I know that someone has raised this same question about a 2GB limit on Informix
and the TYPICAL answer is some OS's can't support anything above 2GB.
Well, we certainly know that Digital Unix does
not seem to have this problem.
We've once again received the news that this is a known bug and will be
fixed at the next release. I'm serious when I say that we cannot keep
upgrading to fix basic data movement problems. We have for various bug
related reasons, gone from V5.x, V6.x, and to a
few different releases ( including the infamous UD1 release ) of V7.x.
At every step, we've encountered problems
and limitations on Informix utilities. I'm beginning to wonder whom besides
us is doing the testing here.
Does anyone have a good experience with this configuration that they
could share with us, or help to overcome this particular problem?
