Look at the generic syntax chart for the CREATE PROCEDURE statement then there is a section at the back withSPL (Informix Stored Procedure Language) statements and syntax. Basically the "as begin" phrase is not part of the syntax and the "end" statement should be "end procedure" and a "returning" clause, describing the types of any returned values, follows immediately after the argument list.
