How can an Informix client app access an DB2 server?

I have an app which access an Informix database, using ESQL/C 7.1, and I am interested in offering access to the OS/400 (DB2) as well. Would this involve recompiling my Unix app with IBM's version of ESQL/C for Unix, if such a thing exists? Normally, my app and the database are on the same system, but I would prefer my app to continue processing on a Unix system, at least for the short term. Any pointers would be appreciated.
