Unknown SQLCODE error
Posted in 2010
Art Kagel hit an undocumented SQL error -1831 (not listed in finderr) while fetching a cursor via an sqlda descriptor in his dbcopy.ec code, against a table containing DATETIME, CHAR and LVARCHAR(2048) columns, on IDS/CSDK 11.50.FC7 and 11.70.FC1B6 on 64-bit Ubuntu. One suggestion was to run 'strings' on oninit and grep for the code, which turned up nothing. Fernando Nunes said internal references tie -1831 to array (buffered) fetch combined with LVARCHAR, citing older APAR IC50423 reportedly fixed in CSDK 3.0, and suggested trying without OPTOFC — but Art had OPTOFC unset. No resolution is recorded; the thread drifts into jokes about Art's mistyped version numbers and Informix release history.

Does anyone know what SQL error -1831 is? It is not showing up in finderr (not even in Panther). It's connected with fetching a cursor using an sqlda descriptor structure, but I don't know what's wrong. This is well tested code (dbcopy.ec) and a simple table with four columns a DATETIME YEAR TO SECOND, a CHAR(32), a CHAR(12), and an LVARCHAR(2048). Art Art S. Did you try doing a 'strings' on the oninit executable and grep for it?

You should always post your versions! :) Just joking. There are some internal references to it and a bug in CSDK 3.00. I would need more time to check this, but it's related to using fetch array and LVARCHAR. If you have OPTOFC set, try without it. There was an APAR IC50423 related to this, but it looks relatively old (2007). Some references found in a bug supposedly fixed on CSDK 3.0...
