If someone does it not know yet: It's easy to make a dbf-file out of
your informix-datas! UNl2DBF does it for you! It is a Windows-Program
(3.x or higher). Here the short documentation. If someone want's to
get this little helper, simply mail to mmozer@swin.baynet.de.

How to use unlconv?
1. You need an unl-file:
Start isql on the Informix-Machine, use "Query-Language", select
the database, then choose "New". Type the following command:
unload to xyz.unl delimiter "@" select * from xyz
xyz.unl is the filename, where the records are written to
xyz is the name of the table, which has to be unloaded
@ is the delimiter. This must be a character which is not usedanywhere else.
2. You need the table-description for the choosen table. Quit isql and
enter:
dbschema -d dbname -t tablename xyz.sql dbname is the name of your database
tablename is the name of the table which has been unloaded
xyz.sql is the name of the file, where these informations are
written to
3. Now copy these two files (e.g. via Disk) to your Windows-Machine.
4. Here you can simply start unl2dbf.exe (while running windows).
When this is the first time you want to convert datas, choose
'File', 'Open', 'Sql-File' and choose the one which you have created
in step 2. You will then be asked for the name of the new dbf-file.
UNL2DBF will now try to create a dbf-file with a similar structure of
the informix-file.
5. If you want to import the datas from the unl-file, choose 'File',
'Open', 'Unl-File'. Now you can choose, which unl you want to import.
Next you will be asked, to which dbf these datas have to be appended.
BE CAREFUL! There is no test if the destination-dbf fits the datas of
the unl. Anyway, if the dbf was created by unl2dbf and the unl-data
belongs to the same informix-table, everything should work fine. (...I
prefer backing up the dbf before appending!)
6. If you want to add new data to an existing dbf, just do step 5.
In the .\\sample directory you will find some data to test the program!
