This is almost definitely due to the fact that a Stored Procedure is run within the engine. In other words it is run by tbinit not by sqlturbo. tbinit has a ppid of 1 and is owned by informix not by the user running the stored procedure so ps fails. Best bet would be to create a string along the lines of let p = "ps -fu" || user || " >>/tmp/" || user || "ps" system p I hope this is right! Cheers - Jim
