I am planning to consolidate two informix instances on a single machine using informix 10.uc4 32bit version. This machine will be installed with 4 Gigs of Ram. On reading the 10.uc4 release notes it states that Maximum Capacity per Computer System is of 2 gigs (SHMVIRTSIZE) for the 32 bit version of informix. Currently each instance to be migrated is located on a different machine with 2 Gigs of Ram. After reading this statement I am not sure if to move on to the consolidated environemt as this could result in both instances trying to access the first 2 gigs portion of Ram. Please advise if there is some sort of work around for this. The underlying OS is Linux Redhat Advanced Server 3.
What would prevent you from putting both databases into the same instance? You will get much better performance if you are going to have both on the same box that way.
