onbar restore of an older save set
Posted in 2011
Topics: Backup & Restore
I am trying to recover a complete Informix database instance from an older
save set. Both the most recent and the older save sets are complete level 0
backups. I have a physically identical machine that I have cloned into being
an identical copy of the production machine by copying a RAID 0 disk. I only
have the most recent and the older archive (from a month end backup on Oct
31), at least some of the intervening save sets have since been overwritten. I
am trying to get onbar to restore the older instance but so far, even though I
have told the storeage manager (ISM) that all the newer save sets are invalid,
onbar is still trying to read the most recent save sets first. There is no
possible value in reading these save sets so how do I get onbar to just read
the Oct 31st save set?
I know this should be straight forward but I cannot get a clear process out of
the manuals and I have been unable to find anything in the discussions here.
Thanks
John
Did you tell onbar what time you wanted to restore to, by using the -t
option??
something like
onbar -r -t "10/31/2010 12:00:00"

Perhaps you can save a copy of the ixbar file on your cloned machine,
then remove all but the backup data for the 31/10/2010 backup and retry
your restore.
cheers

I've tried the swapping the older ixbar file that matches the older saveset.
When I do this, onbar returns error code 126 complaining about a "corrupted"
ixbar. I did this both before and after marking all the intervening savesets
as disable_restore.
I've also tried the -t option to specify the saveset time that I want to
restore, and no luck.
