Then you dedicate it to user and group informix and set the access rights: chown informix.informix /dev/rootdbs /dev/rrootdbs chmod 664 /dev/rootdbs /dev/rrootdbs At this point /dev/rrootdbs is ready to use, but you should create a symbolic link to it. In Informix you use it by the symbolic link, that gives you more flexibility. Also, it is recommended to use a 4k offset when you create the dbspace or chunk as AIX stores some logical volume information in the first 512 bytes. It should not disturb AIX too much if this information is destroyed, but there have been some rumours that sometimes the restore of the database does not work if there was no offset. So, better be on the secure side.
