RE: Logging to Disk

We too rename our log files to "logfile.<last log number>" on our remote servers. When rolling forward the logs this is awkward and prone to error however. Upon a restore of the logical logs Informix will prompt you for a specific tape number, not log number. Care must be taken when renaming the archive. In the event one must restore you must rename in the order of date stamp (or log number - should be the same). Fortunately, I have not had to do this in production, but have tested it. Wherever possible I would recommend logical log archive to tape. If archive to tape is not possible I would recommend you rename your log files to "logfile.<tape_number>" (this may avoid any confusion during a stressful situation). You could create a counter variable and reset it after a successful level 0/1/2. You may also want to save the old logs. HTH Scott H. > -----Original Message----- > From: Art S. I habitually rename the log archive file as > "logfile.<last log number>" indicating which log is last in that archive > file.
