Error 457, why?
Posted in 1994
Hi Informixers,
hopefully, not everybody has gone to Tampa, and some of you cracks are
still reading here :-)
I am getting a puzzling error with Online/Star 5.01. I have the following
setup: Two UNIX machines (SNI RM400) are running Online/Star 5.01
and are connected via TCP/IP (in this case, a slow connection via ISDN).
On machine nr. one, there is a database called "personal" owned by
user "personal". User "verteil" has connect privileges and select
privileges on all relevant tables. The Online servername is "DBPERS".
On machine nr. two, there is a database called "verteiler" owned by
user "verteil".
Now the following scenario:
On machine nr. one, user "personal" issues the following SQL statements
while connected to database "personal":
create table errtable (field1 smallint, field2 char(30));
grant select on errtable to verteil;
insert into errtable values (1,"Number One");
insert into errtable values (2,"Number Two");
insert into errtable values (3,"Number Three");
insert into errtable values (4,"Number Four");
insert into errtable values (5,"Number Five");
insert into errtable values (6,"Number Six");
insert into errtable values (7,"Number Seven");
insert into errtable values (8,"Number Eight");
insert into errtable values (9,"Number Nine");
As you can see, just a simple table with a few rows.
On machine nr. two, user "verteil" issues the following commands while
connected to database "verteiler":
create synonym syn_errtable for personal@DBPERS:"personal".errtable;
create view v_errtable as select field1 f1, field2 f2 from syn_errtable;
create table new_errtable (feld1 smallint, feld2 char(30));
insert into new_errtable select * from v_errtable;
The last statement bombs with error -457!
I have no problems just SELECTing from "syn_errtable" or from "v_errtable",
and I can also INSERT into new_errtable, but the above combination
fails.
Of course, the above is a very simplified version of the actual application,
but it gives the same error. Can someone please explain to me what is
happening here and what I can do to make it work? Is this a known bug?
Regards, Richard
