Problem using 4GL API

We have a C code base of programs accessing a proprietary database at our facility. We recently began using the 4GL API to allow us to access our Informix database for these programs. We had no problems while running on a Wyse 9000i using RDS version 4.10. We recently moved to SCO Open Server 3.0 and RDS version 6.01 and have been having a problem: the interaction inevitably causes the line settings to become confused. In particular, echo is eventually turned off, causing our users much distress, although everything continues to work. Does anybody out there know of a way to prevent 4GL from ever attempting to initialize or reset the screen? I realize that any answer may make use of an unsupported feature or an Informix internal, but I expect to have completed our move to a complete 4GL system before we need to upgrade our Informix again.
