RE: Oracle vs Informix

Jerry Asking people to compare Informix and Oracle on this site is akin to asking Bill Gates to compare M$ and linux. Be prepared for alot of mails claiming this that and the other for each. Both dbs are used in a wide variety of applications and I'm sure either will handle your needs easily. I don't believe anyone ever lost their job for choosing one instead of the other ... unless anyone on the list knows better. My very biased opinion is go with Informix, but hey that's all it is, a biased opinion. Cheers. We currently use Microsoft SQL Server as our database. We are looking to build a scalable robust database system before we go ipo. The choice is between Oracle and Informix. I would like to get people's opinions about each choice. I know that Oracle is going to cost more, so I would like the opinions to be about architecture, locking, tools, and overall how it is to work with the system. Thanks for your input.
