Yes, indeed you end up working LOTS of OT- for upgrades that need to happen at off-hours, programs that break at 3am etc.... Most big shops rotate the on-call schedule between several DBA's. Comp time? Ask and ye shall receive, I have had great success getting comp time (before I went on contract).
