Re: any known problem with Data Replication in Informix?
Posted in 1998
I was involved in the full implementation of HDR ( heterogeneous data rep ) here in the UK for 2 IBM RS6000 F50 & F40 machines using Informix Workgroup Server 7.3. As far as config goes its a piece o' cake. The only initial problem we had was that the application had to be turned on to use Transaction logging ( which wasn't previously configured ) and that caused a few headaches. We configuired the primary machine to replicate transactions whenever they were committed rather than waiting every 5 minutes or so due to the bandwidth of the network. Starting DR is also easy but a little time consuming depending on the size of your database. One of the most important and vital bits we needed to be aware of was the DRTIMEOUT in the ONCONFIG file. There were many problems with the network where there would be periods of network pausing for over 3 miniutes thus causing the primary to think that the secondary wasn't there any more and therefor stopped DR. Also, test your archiving strategy to the hilt - logical logs especially. Hope this helps.
