TCL - Tool Command Language TK - Tool Kit (GUI Interface) X11 - A way cool Windowing system, that kick Micro$oft's butt. not to mention, the windowing system that they took alot idea's from when writing W95. (sorry soapbox) DB - duh, Database. API - Application Programmer's Interface GUI - Graphical User Interface (Like the way cool X11R6) RPC - Remote Procedure Calls The original question was if Informix or anyone else had an Informix DB network based Client/Server system to allow a group of Linux machines to talk to an Informix Server. And this was my suggested solution. The API I was talking about was the Informix ESQL-C Interface. I was saying that you could create a library of subroutines that call ESQL-C function to Query the Informix database. (I not sure, but I think this would be called a ODBC?!?) Then with RPC (Remote Procedure Calls) you could distribute this library across the network to client computers. On The client end you could take this RPC client side stub library to build a TCL/TK to it. So what you would get would be a client-server way of accessing the Informix DB and a GUI interface to boot (With TK). That would allow Linux to use an Informix database on a server machine like it had (I-Net/I-Star). It shouldn't be to hard to build a library to do it. If you think about it you could take the ODBC specs and write from there. If you were a real manly programmer you could make this stub library into a DLL for Linux. Then if you needed you could use the dlload system in GCC (GNU C Compiler) to dynamicily load and unload different ODBC drivers on the fly. It's pretty simple really.. If I had the time I would most likely write one just learn something about ODBC. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jason Lambert Bass, Inc.
