TO_CHAR? or not to char

Hi Informix = 730UC5. Does anyone know if informix has a TO_CHAR function that a certain other database does that starts with the letter 'O' and ends in 'racle'. It changes date/time or other fields to character so you can compare them. For our off the shelf application (PeopleSoft) we need to implement this to check a start date against a date entered on a report which just happens to be character field - they have given us an oracle answer and say they don't know if informix supports it. thanks Bridget
Informix 7.3 does support TO_CHAR. Check the Informix Guide to SQL Tutorial. Informix also does implicit conversions of certain fields if you are not on
Version 7.3X.
We are using version 7.23, and do:
select * from systables
where "10/08/1999" = ("" || TODAY)
Of course, you can replace TODAY with your date field. If you use a
datetime field, I believe the "" || FIELD format is CCYY-MM-DD HH:SS.
