Use QueriX 4GL for development. Just in case you had to change over. It works with both Informix and Oracle. It offers a GUI, and cost less than Informix as OTC says. If it's your money, Spend it well. Obnoxio The Clown wrote: > From: "Jerry O'Connell" <jpoconnell@pobox.com> > > > >I work for an internet startup that sells autos on the internet. Never used Oracle, but I've managed and designed databases primarily in Informix. Agree with ease of use comments below. Also, you don't have to pay for extra modules (ie Informix Dynamic Server allows backing up while database is running, Oracle requires an add on module [nickle and dime kind of stuff]). You're sort of asking what's the best car to buy when your requirement is transportation. Informix, Oracle, Sybase, and Progress all are sufficient. . . . running under UNIX. I've managed projects with SQL Server on NT, and it's such a resource hog that you really can't do anything else on the machine when it's running, regardless of NTs instability. And, adding processors to an NT system just adds to system administration complexity. I'll get off my soapbox now. . . .
