I don't know of any way of circumventing this. I don't see why not. I would, however, backup to a cooked disk file (with the appropriate permissions, etc.). This will stop your logs from getting too full (provided you don't have long transactions, etc.) It appears that you are not aware of the difference between log backups and archives.
